Technical Specifications
NMT : Nano-molding Technology
Presently, any kind of aluminum is applicable. It can be pressed, die-casted or extruded. The resin that is currently being used is PPS, PBT and PA66. Currently, NMT is being tested on other metals such as Stainless Steel, Magnesium, Copper, Tin and Iron.
The NMT Process is described below.
(1) The picture below shows a piece of sheet aluminum 5000 series before NMT process.

(2) The T process – Key point of the technology

Click on Image for a more detailed view.
The aluminum is firstly cleanse through a degreasing agent and acid-base water. Then the T process is applied by dipping the aluminum into a T solution for a few minutes, then rinse with diluted water. This is the key point of this technology.
(3) Aluminum after T-Process

The T process results in the creation of microscopic dimples, indentations with a diameter of 20-30nm, on the surface of the aluminum, and because the resin enters these dimples and hardens, the bond is very strong.
(4) Injection Molding
After the T process, the aluminum is inserted into a metal mold, then injection molding is applied with resin of PBT or PPS.
Vertical cross-sections of the aluminum and resin after injection bonding

Minute indentations and protrusions are visible on the surface of the boundary between the aluminum and resin and it can be observed that the resin has penetrated between indentations and protrusions. This is the reason why the resin is firmly bonded to the aluminum.
